Star Spangled Fourth – Lights on the Lake 200X

Fourth Of July Fireworks Celebration Light’s Up Lake Tahoe
The American Pyrotechnics Association rates South Shore’s spectacular Fourth of July fireworks celebration one of the Top 5 displays in the nation.

Set to music, Lights on the Lake is one of the largest and most incredible synchronized displays west of the Mississippi.

Created by Pyro Spectaculars, Inc. and fired by Pyrodigital Consultants, the show runs approximately 30 minutes long and features a wide variety of patterns, lights, designs and shapes. The precisely timed blast offs are synchronized to a soundtrack and controlled via computer. Scheduled to begin at approximately 9:45 PM.

The simultaneous music broadcast can be heard on local stations KRLT-FM 93.9 and KOWL-AM 1490. Launched from an offshore barge, the fireworks are visible from all over town. Below are some of the sweet spots to get a front row seat.

  • The Tahoe Queen and M.S. Dixie II: South Shore’s two Mississippi paddlewheelers offer a unique opportunity to view the light show from the water. Board the Tahoe Queen for a Dinner Dance Cruise or the M.S. Dixie II for a Fireworks Cruise. Both feature live entertainment and fantastic views of the evening’s display. Log onto www.laketahoecruises.com.

  • Tallac Historic Site: The Valhalla Arts & Music Festival will host a holiday barbecue at Tallac Vista. The quiet, off-the-beaten-track spot on Emerald Bay Road has a stunning view looking east across Lake Tahoe toward the fireworks. For more information, log onto www.valhalla-tallac.com.

  • Nevada Beach: Located about two miles east of the Nevada casinos on Elk Point Road, Nevada Beach is the ideal setting for a family barbecue at the beach. A wide, sandy shoreline leads down to the sapphire waters of Lake Tahoe. Charcoal barbecues and picnic tables dot the beach. The view across the lake to the West Shore and Desolation Wilderness is unsurpassed. And the view of the fireworks display is one of the best in town.

  • Regan and El Dorado Beaches: Located right where Highway 50 meets the Lake, these connecting stretches of narrow beach are front and center for the fireworks. Arrive early! These beaches fill up with people who love to be right under the action.

  • Bijou Community Park: Set back from the shoreline on the corner of Johnson and Al Tahoe Blvds., Bijou Community Park affords a great view of the fireworks without the hustle and bustle of the beaches. Amenities at the park include restrooms, a skate park, a disc golf course, a playground, and an exercise circuit. The park is a great setting for families with young children.

  • Baldwin Beach: Located about 5 miles down Emerald Bay Road and backed by the Tallac Historic Site, this narrow stretch of white sand beach has great views looking east toward the downtown area of South Shore. Public parking, restrooms, picnic facilities, fire pits, and barbecue grills are available.
